Nature's Premium Pork by Artificial Nature — animal welfare, vitamin D3 laboratory observations and environmental enrichment

Nature's Premium Pork

A new premium pork concept shaped by the Artificial Nature programme.

Selected UVmix lighting, environmental stimulation and positive farmer–animal interaction are being used to develop premium pork with strong welfare, excellent condition and distinctive nutritional value.

Why it matters

High animal welfare

A more natural, stimulating environment helps pigs live healthier, more active lives.

Calmer animals

Animals are calmer and show a better response to farmers and their environment.

Full-spectrum light

UVmix lighting includes UV-A, UV-B and IR, supporting natural behaviours and wellbeing.

Naturally elevated vitamin D3

Exposure to natural-like light is associated with higher vitamin D3 levels in pork, measured in laboratory analysis.

Hamilton laboratory observations

Observed vitamin D3 concentration reached 2.67 micrograms per 100 g of pork neck.

This is approximately 12.7 times higher than the conservative comparison value of 0.21 micrograms per 100 g used in the Artificial Nature analysis.

100 g of the best observed pork sample corresponded to approximately 53% of the EU daily reference intake for vitamin D.

How Artificial Nature contributes

Artificial Nature combines light, sound, natural rhythms and human interaction to create a more natural and stimulating environment for pigs.

Development in progress

Nature's Premium Pork is a premium concept under development within the Artificial Nature programme. Work continues toward broader production and market introduction.

Further development is being pursued with scientific interest in animal welfare, nutrition and food science.
